The Strauch Hypercube
year: 2025
place: UC Berkeley Bechtel Engineering Center
The new UC Berkeley Grimes Engineering Center Forum was conceived as a hub for learning, collaboration and innovation. The Strauch Hypercube is a visual representation of this vision. 46,000 points of light bring slowly shifting content to the large open space. Generative animations driven by algorithms tied to mathematics, engineering and systems in nature create an ever-changing visual narrative. An explosion of reflective pixel-like cubes emanate from its core to catch bits of the light. Developed with an open platform for experimentation, students and faculty are invited to explore.
Formally, it recalls the hypercube, a theoretical object that cannot be visualized in the traditional sense, but its properties can be explored and understood through mathematical formulas and equations.
